Laughter

This is what happens when you take one of your best friends and a camera out for a walk in the park. I really love this woman, and as you can see by the laughter, you’d probably love her, too. Her husband and children are big fans as well.

I am so lucky that I have very gorgeous, photogenic friends.

A touch of colour

The East Coast of Canada (New Brunswick, in particular) is also famous for it’s colourful Autumns. It was one of the things I looked forward to most when I moved back here.

Lighthouses

It has been months since I updated this blog, and for the 2 people who read it, I apologize. I’ll try to post a bunch this week and next and hopefully get a momentum going.

I have a thing for lighthouses. Maybe it’s a Freudian thing, and maybe it’s a nautical interest, but I’m fascinated by them. The East Coast of Canada has plenty to choose from, and this is one of my favourites. It’s the old abandoned Cape Jourimain lighthouse situated next to the Confederation Bridge linking New Brunswick to Prince Edward Island. It’s only a small park fee, and a short hike (there’s a path, but I rebelled and walked on the beach) out to the point, and you can spend the day lounging in the sun, or seeking solace in the shade of this former beacon that is in desperate need of a paint job.

There is even a picnic table out there if you’d like to bring a lunch. Terrible cell phone service, though, so there won’t be any tweeting or checking in on foursquare from here.

I realize I have posted some of these before, but hey, it’s a really nice place!

Friends are enthusiastic models…mostly.

This has been an abnormally warm summer here in Eastern Canada, and when the air cooled down to a bearable temperature one recent evening, I decided to take advantage. I grabbed the camera, sent a tweet to my friend Josh (who is the best walking buddy), and went in search of some photo opportunities around my current hometown of Riverview, New Brunswick.

These first two shots were taken on the footbridge that crosses over Findlay Blvd. I greeted Josh the way I always seem to be greeting him–with a camera in my face, snapping away. He’s such a good sport.

Here’s sunset over the Petitcodiac River. It may be a muddy river, but you can’t say that’s not beautiful.

Josh is one of my favourite people to take photos of because he always says to me “tell me what to do!”. I love it when people say that to me. I just told him to think WWTD (What Would Tyra Do).

We ended up walking for two hours, gossipping away, running into a few friends (John and Kim from the previous post), and seeing the first signs of Fall. I can’t wait to get out there when the leaves change and get some beautiful shots of the new season!

John and Kim are Engaged!

My friends John & Kim recently got engaged (to each other, of course) and I was given the honour of taking their engagement photos. It was my very first “real” shoot (and hopefully the first of many!) and I was nervous and excited, but it was SO much fun. We traveled all over the Albert County, NB area, stopping whenever the mood struck or an idea was inspired. We found some very beautiful locations, and explored quite a few places I had never seen before. The weather was perfect, and other than a few battles with horse flies and angry farmers in pick-up trucks, it was a pretty great day! These are just a few of the hundreds of great (their words, not mine) photos I took of this cute couple.

Rory.

This is my friend’s daughter, Rory. She absolutely loves having her picture taken, and it’s a good thing she does, because the camera loves her. Look at those eyes and those freckles!

Lights in the sky

My hometown of Moncton, New Brunswick was host to the IAAF World Junior Athletics Championships this week, and to commemorate the event, had a truly spectacular fireworks show. (I have been watching a lot of the coverage on TV, but my boyfriend is a Sports Photographer and has been up close and personal with all the action. You can see some of his photos of the athletes and events here)

New Brunswick is pretty great, too.

Location: Cape Jourimain, on the east coast of New Brunswick, looking toward Prince Edward Island.

Flora

Nova Scotia

I grew up on the West Coast of Canada, which is amazing, but I have recently discovered that the East Coast of Canada has some great beauty as well! These are from a recent day trip to the eastern part of Nova Scotia.
